Today’s Reading: Matthew 27:11-26
Pilate knew---he knew Jesus was completely innocent, yet he allowed him to be sent away to be flogged and crucified. Why? Fear. He was the governor, yet he was scared of the crowd, the chief priests and the elders. While he subtlety tried to convince them that Jesus was innocent, the fear was too great to allow him to be bold. Although he knew the truth, he depended on his own strength to try to control the situation instead of depending on God---and that’s the difference. I get it! I will never be able to truly conquer my fears myself, I do not have it in me, as a child of God my strength does not come from independence but from dependence on Christ. So when fear arises, when I feel it coming, when it just seems like it will overwhelm me, I will rise up and proclaim that I can’t conquer it, I can’t remove it, but I know who can---Jesus Christ. He knows every fear before it even comes and he knows how to conquer it, control it, and use it to do great things in my life.
